Less storage consumption, more efficiency: improvements to the TYRIOS infrastructure

We have optimised our infrastructure - and for you this means: the same performance with less memory consumption!

TYRIOS uses a dynamic and transparent storage model: instead of having to book overdimensioned storage packages, we ensure that you always have the storage you need. This allows you to concentrate fully on your business, because you have us for the technology. We make sure that you have a high-performance site while keeping an eye on the costs incurred. This trade-off is not always easy, which is why we are constantly working on it.

In recent months, we have observed a massive increase in page views by so-called AI crawlers. Several GB of traffic per day - and that per page - are no longer a rarity.

Ironically, many of these AI crawlers are not programmed particularly intelligently and retrieve pages extremely inefficiently, especially for larger shops. This led to a significant increase in cache files - and therefore also to higher memory consumption. We have now tackled this problem.

1. Improved dynamic JavaScript

TYRIOS optimises JavaScript files fully automatically so that they can be sent to the browser with minimal file size. It is important that this happens quickly. This is why we have always cached JavaScript files locally - the so-called cache. However, this has led to several gigabytes of cache files being generated for some customers in recent months.

We have now optimised this procedure so that dynamic JavaScript - e.g. for the data layer of Google Ads - can be generated dynamically and on the fly, whereas the large static files are optimised in advance as before. This saves valuable storage space - with a noticeable effect on licence costs for many customers.

2. Automatic image cache clean-up

With images, responsive design and optimisations quickly result in many derivatives - i.e. automatically generated versions in different sizes. In addition to old file formats such as jpg and png, we also generate modern, more efficient file formats such as webp files fully automatically. To keep the page speed fast, these derivatives were saved in the image cache. Previously, these caches were only deleted when the original image was removed from the media library. Now applies:
All image derivatives that have not been used in the last 4 weeks are automatically deleted - even if the original is still available.

This permanently reduces memory consumption and relieves your licence costs - without any manual intervention.

Important: More dynamics - more fluctuation

These improvements enable us to achieve significant memory reductions and therefore cost savings for almost all customers. But there is also a downside: memory consumption is now even more strongly influenced by actual website traffic and user behaviour.
This means that if a large number of new images are generated or visitors access content that was previously rarely used, this can lead to higher memory consumption in the short term - but this usually decreases again.

We have deliberately refrained from imposing flat-rate storage packages on customers. Instead, we rely on a fair and flexible model that grows with you - and automatically adapts to your needs. You can view your current daily memory consumption at any time in the licence overview within your TYRIOS instance.
