Description:
Categories help you to structure your product range in a meaningful way: The aim is for customers to find the products they are interested in as intuitively as possible. All categories together form a category hierarchy, a so-called hierarchy tree. The "root" is the main category and thus represents the entire shop inventory. In the standard configuration, this category is called "Shop".
Solution:
To create a category, log in to the system with your access data. You then have two options for creating categories.
- via the customer area, go to "Product management" > "Create categories."
- In the frontend, go to the shop area and click on "Create category". The way to the shop area depends on your page design and your page structure.
To create a category, you should enter at least the following data
- Define a name for the category in the "Basic data" tab. If your site is multilingual, you should enter a suitable name for each language.
- Define a description of the category (what is this category about, which articles with which characteristics can be found here).
- Create a convincing inner description in the Category content tab. This serves to advise customers who do not know exactly what they are looking for. This is where you can set yourself apart from the competition.
- In the "Basic data" tab, use the "Public" checkbox to specify whether the category should already be visible to end customers or whether you want to edit the category first and publish it later.
- In the "Categories" tab, specify the category under which the new category should be categorised in the category tree.
When you save the category, you will be taken directly to the corresponding category.
Category preview
Depending on the structure of your shop, it may be useful to provide customers with images for the categories so that they can get a quick overview of the category without having to read the text.
- To do this, click on "Edit category".
- Go to the "Media" tab.
- Select an image as a preview via the media library.
- Click on Save.
Tips and Tricks:
In order for you to have the "Create category" function available, your user must have the "Create category" right.
Make sure that your customer is able to understand and quickly grasp your categorisation. It has been established as a limit value that you should not create more than 12 categories per hierarchy level.
Important: Store the meta description. This description is the text that is displayed in the search engine. It should be short and descriptive.
