All categories together form a category hierarchy, a so-called hierarchy tree. The "root" is the main category and thus represents the entire shop inventory. In the standard configuration, this category is called "Shop".

Accessing the Category Menu
You can initiate the creation of a category through two primary methods after logging in with your credentials:

Via the Customer Area: Navigate to Product Management > Create Categories.

Via the Frontend: Navigate directly to your shop area and click Create Category.

Configuring Basic Data and Visibility
Once the creation window is open, you must provide the foundational information for the category.

Define a Name: In the Basic Data tab, enter a name for the category.

Multilingual Sites: Ensure you enter a translated name for every active language on your site.

Set Visibility: Use the Public checkbox in the Basic Data tab.

Checked: The category is visible to end customers immediately.

Unchecked: The category remains hidden, allowing you to edit and refine it before a formal launch.

Tips and Tricks:
In order for you to have the "Create category" function available, your user must have the "Create category" right.
Make sure that your customer is able to understand and quickly grasp your categorisation. It has been established as a limit value that you should not create more than 12 categories per hierarchy level.
Important: Store the meta description. This description is the text that is displayed in the search engine. It should be short and descriptive.
