Embed Google Maps in the footer

Questions:

  • My footer supports displaying a Google map, but I don’t know how to embed it.
  • How do I add the Google Map to my footer?
  • How do you convert a Google Maps iFrame into a usable URL?

Description:

Some footers offer the option of embedding Google Maps. This allows you to easily show visitors to your site exactly where your shop is in relation to their own location.

Solution:

To be able to embed a Google Map, your footer must support this option. You must also be logged in and authorised to edit the system configuration.

The first step is to explain how to access the HTML segment you need to embed a Google Map.

  1. open Google Maps
  2. Use the search mask to enter the address you want to show your visitors
  3. open the Google menu by clicking on the hamburger symbol
  4. Search for the menu item "Share or embed map" and click on it. A pop-up will open
  5. Switch to the "Embed map" button
  6. You will see a line of text above the map displayed in the pop-up. To the right of it is a link "Copy HTML". Click on it. The HTML is now saved to the clipboard.

Please note

Please make sure that you follow these steps. If you try to use the URL from the address bar of your browser instead of the HTML from "Embed map", you will receive an error message when saving your system configuration.

Now switch to your website and log in if you are not already logged in. The following explains how to embed the map in the footer.

  • Customer area
  • System settings
  • System settings
  • System configuration
  • Footer configuration
  1. Navigate to the footer configuration in the customer area via System > System configuration and open the menu
  2. Search for a menu item called "Embed map" or "Google Maps". (The exact name of this option may vary depending on the footer used)
  3. If you are offered the choice between "leaflet" and "Google Maps", select "Google Maps"
  4. Paste the previously copied HTML into the "Google Maps iFrame to URL conversion" field using CTRL + V.
  5. If necessary, enter additional content such as the footer navigation. It is often not possible to save the system configuration if mandatory fields (the footer navigation is usually one of them) have not been entered
  6. Scroll to the end of the configuration and click on "Save"
