Make payment methods available only to regular customers
Questions:
- How can I offer certain payment methods only to specific customers?
- How do I prevent new customers from using payment methods meant for regulars?
Description:
Regular customer care is the be-all and end-all. This also applies to payment methods. This is because regular customers in particular often have special conditions, experience or even direct debit authorisations. So there is no reason to resort to external payment providers.
Unfortunately, it is not enough to simply provide the relevant payment methods, as new customers are only too keen to benefit from these conditions. We therefore have to specifically activate regular customers. This is done via the TYRIOS internal authorisation management.
Solution:
We generally recommend that you create a user group for regular customers and activate the rights via this group membership. This is how it works:
Create a group:
- As a user with extended rights, go to Customer area > User management > Manage groups
- Search for the group under which the new regular customer group is to be created. This is usually the "User" group. Click on the "Create group " icon here
- Enter a name for the new group - e.g. regular customer. Optionally, you can enter a description and a picture for the group.
- Save the group
Set group rights:
- As a user with extended rights, go to Customer area > User management > Manage groups
- Search for the "Regular customer" group you just created and click on the "Edit group rights " button
- Search for the rights group "Payment method management". TYRIOS offers you 5 individually usable rights for payment methods. Select one of the rights "Payment type management - free right 1" to "Payment type management - free right 5"
- Click on the "Create rights" button.
Assign regular customers:
- As a user with extended rights, go to Customer area > User management > Manage users
- Search for your regular customer and click on "Edit user" in the line menu.
- In the user editor, click on "Properties" and assign the user to the newly created "Regular customer" group. This gives the user the appropriate rights via the group.
- Save the user.
Limit payment method with rights:
- As a user with extended rights, go to Customer area > Order management > Manage payment options
- Search for the payment method you want to restrict and select "Edit payment method" in the line menu.
- In the properties, select the right that you have assigned to the group.
- Save the payment method
Tips and Tricks:
Restricting the payment method ensures that only known regular customers can use the payment method. However, please note that this security also has a downside. It also prevents a new user from recognising themselves as an interested regular customer. With an unrestricted payment method, you have the option of actively approaching this customer and requesting a bank transfer for the first payment and allowing a different payment method for subsequent orders.
