Media management
Questions:
- How do I manage media?
Description:
All media are managed centrally in the media library in TYRIOS. An interactive media management system is available for this purpose. The system distinguishes between a system-wide media library and user-specific media libraries. This means that you can authorise individual users to manage their own media. You can authorise other users to manage the system-wide media library. The same media administration is available for both.

Media management consists of a menu (1-6), a folder hierarchy (7) and a media list (8). The menu adapts to the current folder and media selection.
- Media can be managed in any folder structure. It is possible to create your own folders under the media library at any time. Some folders are created by the system itself. For example, you will find all automatically created PDF files from the content management system in the CMS folder. If a subfolder is selected, the "Delete folder" function is available in the menu. It deletes an entire folder including its contents.
- You can upload as many files as you like to the current folder in the media library, provided you have the appropriate rights. The "Upload file(s)" function provides you with a dialogue for selecting your files. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop the files from your Explorer into the media list (8). TYRIOS supports the simultaneous upload of any number of files. During the upload, a status bar is displayed to show how long the upload will take. If there is already a file with the same file name in the current folder, the new file is counted up in the file name.
- If at least one file is selected in the media list by clicking on it, the "Edit file" function is available. Depending on the selected file, further functions are offered here
- Rename: This function is only available if exactly one file is selected. You can use it to rename a file as you wish. Please note that you can also change the file extension (e.g. ".jpg", ".png", etc.) and that this can cause problems with some operating systems and browsers. You should therefore generally leave the extension unchanged. The renaming is taken into account fully automatically throughout the system so that you do not have to edit any products, categories or similar due to the renaming. *
- Move: You can move media to another folder at any time. All you have to do is select the target folder in the dialogue that appears. This move is also taken into account fully automatically throughout the system.
- Replace: This function is only available if exactly one file is selected. If you want to replace a file with a more up-to-date version, this function is the right one for you. You use it to replace a media file with a new file to be uploaded. The new version is automatically taken into account in the overall system.
- Set security level: TYRIOS supports three security levels for media. You can use this function to set the security level for the current selection.
- Edit image: This function is only available if exactly one image file is selected. You are offered a basic image editor with which you can rotate images.
- If at least one file is selected in the media list, you can delete the media using this function. If possible, the system checks whether the selected medium is in use. If this is the case, the deletion action is cancelled with an error message. This keeps your overall system consistent and avoids incorrect links. *
- You can filter the media list according to the five supported media types. Any combination is possible.
- You can also search for media in the current folder based on the file name. The search does not take subfolders into account.
- You can see all available folders in the folder structure. All folders with subfolders are dark grey. A simple click on these folders displays the subfolders.
- Depending on the current search (6) and filter setting (5), the media list shows the available media. You can select media with a single click and deselect already selected media with another click. Multiple selection is only possible if the function used supports multiple media. For example, only one category image is possible in a category selection, but several teaser images.
In addition to an image preview, the media list displays an orange or red exclamation mark if the image resolution is too low. A resolution of at least 800 pixels is advisable (orange), but a minimum resolution of 1,500 pixels is recommended.
* A special feature is all media in the editor function. Here it is possible for you to store your own file names using the source code function. For this reason, renaming cannot be taken into account. For the same reason, it is also not possible to check whether a file has been saved in the editor before deleting it.
