Enter unit price and base price
Questions:
- How can I deposit a basic price?
- Which items must have a basic price?
- Where must the basic price be indicated?
- How can I deposit a base price?
Description:
In Germany, some items must be labelled with a so-called base price. This is a price including VAT converted to a base quantity, which makes the item easier for the end consumer to compare.
Which items must be labelled with a base price?
This is regulated by the Basic Price Ordinance, which is part of the Price Indication Ordinance. This states that a basic price must always be indicated if goods are offered in pre-packaged goods, in open packs or as sales units without wrapping by weight, volume, length or area. If goods are not offered by weight, volume, area or length, e.g. as pieces, a basic price is therefore not necessary.
Our tip
If in doubt, we would always recommend that you include the base price. Missing basic price information is one of the most common reasons for issuing a warning. And even if this is unfounded in individual cases, the warning causes unnecessary stress and work. Entering the basic price in TYRIOS is very simple and requires only a few details. The advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages.
When should a basic price be stated?
The basic price must always be stated if you advertise the item including the final price. This therefore applies not only to the online shop, but also in the shop window 2.0 and in your print advertising. You are also responsible for ensuring that your advertising - e.g. on Google AdWords, Facebook etc. - is correctly labelled.
The Price Indication Ordinance clearly states that the basic price must be indicated in close proximity to the final price. Indicating the base price in the product description is therefore clearly not sufficient.
Note
If you are not yet using TYRIOS, you should pay particular attention to this. Open source systems in particular are not readily geared towards the German market and often do not fulfil the legal requirements. Therefore, make sure that the basic price is calculated and displayed correctly. TYRIOS does this automatically for you.
TYRIOS automatically ensures that the Price Indication Ordinance is fulfilled. The basic price is automatically displayed everywhere. This applies to the article detail view, the article overview, product streams, search results as well as for product placements within your blog, your content management system, your newsletter and much more. The basic price is always calculated individually for the corresponding visitor. This means that TYRIOS automatically takes into account who is currently logged in and whether this user has individual price settings.
Solution:
You do not have to calculate the basic price yourself in TYRIOS. TYRIOS does this automatically for you. All you have to do is enter the quantities for calculating the basic price. This is quite simple:
- As a user with extended rights, go to the customer area > Product management > Manage articles.
- Search for the item for which you want to enter the base price and click on "Edit item" in the line menu. Alternatively, you can also create a new item.
- You will land in the article editor. In the general data section, you will now find the "Unit price" section at the bottom. You can enter the following information here
- The unit of the base price. The basic price regulation allows the following units
- 1 kilogram, 1 litre, 1 cubic metre, 1 metre or 1 square metre
- for goods whose nominal weight or nominal volume does not usually exceed 250 grams or millilitres, 100 grams or millilitres may be used as the unit of measure for the basic price
- If you have detailed questions, please find out exactly which information is permitted.
- Enter the nominal weight / nominal volume / quantity of your item in the "Base price dimension" field. For example, if you have a product with 5 litres, enter 5 here.
- In the "Base price unit price" field, enter the quantity that is included in the base price. This is usually 1 (in the example for 1 litre) or 100 (for 100ml).
- The unit of the base price. The basic price regulation allows the following units
With this information, TYRIOS is able to calculate and display the respective base price fully automatically for all prices - including customer-specific and individual prices. TYRIOS ensures that wherever a price is displayed, the appropriate (customer-specific) base price is also displayed.
Store basic price as base price
For certain product types, it is desirable to specify a base price instead of a basic price. For laminate or tiles, for example, it is common to specify the price in square metres, even if the product is only sold in packages. In this case, you only need to tick the box "Show unit price as base price". TYRIOS then displays the base price everywhere as the primary price and at the same time offers a quantity calculator for the customer in the online shop so that they can determine the quantity using the base price.

Tips and Tricks:
Please note that you must also ensure that a base price is included in your adverts if required. Google offers the option of specifying the base price for product advertising. This is also automatically taken into account by TYRIOS. So you don't need to worry about this as long as you have entered the basic information as specified.
