Show product details in overviews
Questions:
- How can I display product details in the overview?
Description:
Sometimes it is important to display product details in overviews so that the customer can quickly find the desired product. There are basically two ways to proceed so that the customer is not frustrated.

Variant 1: There are many decision criteria for a product
For a larger product range, where the right product has to be found on the basis of a large number of product features, it is advisable to provide the customer with an interactive filter function - also known as facets. Compared to classic categories, facets have the advantage that the customer can prioritise which properties are important to them and how, and can filter the product quantity interactively.
Facets are automatically supported in TYRIOS via the product search and you can customise the fields to your requirements at any time via the product data types.

Option 2: There are few decision criteria
If, on the other hand, there are few decision criteria, you can also highlight and display the relevant product details directly in the item preview. This allows your customer to quickly make the right choice. However, it is advisable to only use this method for a manageable number of products and decision criteria.
Solution:
The procedure for variants 1 and 2 is almost identical. This is how you have to proceed:
- Go to the customer area as a user with extended administrative rights > Product management
-
Firstly, you need to extend a product data type.
Click on "Manage product data types" in the "Advanced functions" area. Here, either select an existing data type or create a new data type.
-
You must create a new field under Product field, e.g. Filtering;
The display location is arbitrary, but if you only want to use the data in the filtering, we recommend "Private". The data will then not be displayed. The meaning of the display location is as follows:
Product details: This data is displayed as a separate block in the item detail view. Frequently used for "Technical data".
Product description: This data is displayed within the product description. The block is introduced with a ¨caption, for which the field name is used.
Private: This data is not displayed automatically and is used for private purposes - such as filtering.
Product preview: This data is displayed in the preview (variant 2)
-
Define the individual fields that can be displayed or filtered by
You can add as many fields as you like and customise the product data structure to your product range. Make sure you select the correct data type so that the input does not cause any problems later on.
- Save the data type
- Now go to the item of your choice in the customer area > Product management > Manage products and edit this item
-
Select the "Additional data" tab and then select the desired product type.
Note: A product can only be assigned to one type. If you change the data type, the previously stored extended product data will be lost.
- The new individual fields will now appear for you to fill in. All entries are optional.
- Save the article
- If you have selected the display location "Preview", "Description" or "Product details", the data will now be displayed directly.
Use detail fields for filtering
To use the detail fields in addition to faceting, proceed as follows.
-
Update the search data schema
Go to Search > Index products in the customer area and select "Update data schema and re-index". This will communicate the new product schema to the search. The search is completely reset and all products are re-indexed using the new data schema
This process can take a considerable amount of time depending on the number of products. Leave the page open, otherwise the process will be cancelled
As the process takes a long time, we recommend that you carry out this process carefully, as it has an impact on the product overviews
-
Now go to the desired shop category
Go to the customer area > Product management > Manage categories and edit the desired category.
-
Configure the article view
Click on the "Item view" tab and make sure that item selection with faceting and filter function is selected.
Now select "Use category-specific faceting" and add the desired fields that you want to allow as filtering.
-
Configure the facet fields
Each facet can be configured individually. You should enter at least one name so that your customer knows what is behind the filter function. However, you also have other setting options such as sorting, facet-specific search functions, etc.
- Save the category. The filter function is now available.
