EU requirements from September 2026Warranty at checkout: Preparing for 2026

From 27 September 2026, EU Directive 2024/825 will require online retailers to remind customers of the statutory two-year guarantee before they complete their purchase. This harmonised notice must appear in a specific format directly within the checkout process.

In this article, you will learn how to enable the notification so that your shop automatically provides localised information and PDF downloads. Please note that overall legal compliance remains the responsibility of the retailer.

Make sure your shop is compliant in good time: from 27 September 2026, the harmonised warranty notice will be mandatory at checkout. These instructions will guide you through the simple activation process in your admin area, so that you can effortlessly meet the requirements of EU Directive 2024/825.

Important: This technical implementation is intended to support your compliance but does not replace individual legal advice. As the operator, you are responsible for ensuring your shop’s legal compliance.

  1. Open System Configuration in the Administration section

Open the sidebar in your admin area. Go to the ‘System ’ menu item and then click on ‘System Configuration’.

  2. Enable EU status in order management

Look for the ‘Order Management’ section on the page and click on it to expand it. There, tick the box next to the option ‘Is the company based in the EU?’. This is the only setting required for it to appear at checkout.

  3. Open the checkout with an active order

To check the display, open your shop as a customer and add a product to your basket. Proceed to the checkout. The system will now automatically check whether the message is enabled.

  4. Check the position of the notice during checkout

Look for the new information text in the main column of the checkout page. It appears automatically once you have selected the delivery method (Delivery Management) and just before the order details.

  5. Testing adverts in different languages

Check the display in your primary language. If you switch the language to English, the message will also change automatically. If a language is not supported, the system will display the English version by default. Regional codes such as ‘de-DE’ are automatically converted back to the primary language ‘de’.

  6. Check accessibility and PDF download

Please ensure that the image of the notice loads and that the PDF download works. The file is provided as an attachment with a name such as Legal_guarantee_notice_DE.pdf. The notice also contains invisible text that is specifically optimised for customers using screen readers.

Cut-off date: 27 September 2026EU Directive 2024/825: Warranty information at checkout

Binding deadline with no transition period
EU Directive 2024/825 (‘Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition’) makes the harmonised notice regarding the statutory guarantee mandatory from 27 September 2026. As no transition period is provided for, retailers must ensure the notice is displayed in good time by the deadline.

Independence of the notice
The legal notice appears automatically during the checkout process. It is displayed regardless of the following factors:

  • Contents of the shopping basket
  • The customer’s chosen delivery country
  • Payment method used

Legal Responsibility and Advice
TYRIOS provides the technical requirements as well as the localised texts and graphics. However, responsibility for general compliance with legal requirements in specific individual cases lies with the retailer. We recommend seeking qualified legal advice in case of doubt.

Distinction from the GARAN label
This general checkout notice is not the same as the product-specific ‘GARAN’ label. Whilst the checkout notice fulfils the legal obligation to provide information about the warranty, the GARAN label indicates additional commercial guarantees directly within the product details.

Garan label
The ‘Garan’ label may only be used in connection with extended warranties and forms part of the product details.
